Brantley Avery

I'm really enjoying getting to meet all of the clients at McCoy and learning more about them. They have all been so sweet and nice to be around, my service learning always goes by so fast when I with them!
I think the most challenging part of my service learning at McCoy has been getting into the groove. At this point I'm very comfortable being around all of the clients and I know what to do and how to interact with everyone, but the first couple of visits I was very nervous and worried if I was doing everything right. One key takeaway from this day's service learning was how to not worry about what others are thinking about you. One of the clients really wanted to dance with me during dance class and instead of being worried about how I would look in front of the other clients and nursing students, I chose to have fun and dance. It was fun and I don't regret taking the chance to do what I thought was fun, even if it looked a little silly.
